About us

What experience looks like in practice

Why do we want to work with you? Because we love helping organisations thrive. Over 35+ years, we’ve helped organisations large and small streamline their communications, produce effective campaigns, and express their priorities more clearly—for their own people as much as for the people they serve.

For more than three decades, The Word Gym has helped organisations shape the language and messaging that influence how their decisions are made and communicated.

The company was founded on the belief that well-crafted language matters—not just aesthetically, but operationally, conveying intention in all its nuances.

The founders’ management experience and complementary backgrounds—language and storytelling on one side, organisational behaviour and leadership on the other—shaped the way The Word Gym evolved.

Initially set up as a creative translation (transcreation) studio, The Word Gym started by helping agencies and their clients communicate effectively across borders, markets and cultures.

Because good copywriting and transcreated copy are tightly interwoven with brand messaging and corporate culture, we found ourselves advising corporate clients on their internal communication, as well as their advertising, marketing and PR.

Prior experience in senior management meant we can connect with senior executives at strategic level, helping to integrate communication with corporate culture and objectives, firmly grounded in years of research and analytical experience.

Today, The Word Gym brings together this expertise in language, research and strategic communication in our Communications Studio.

We help organisations eliminate ambiguity, strengthen internal cohesion, and ensure their messages are consistent wherever they are heard. Building trust by improving communication.

Team of remote workersOur extended team

Behind every Word Gym project is a carefully assembled team of specialists.

We work with a trusted network of senior experts—strategists, researchers, translators, editors, designers, writers, copywriters, facilitators and subject-matter specialists—each chosen for their depth of experience and their ability to work thoughtfully with complex material.

They are not interchangeable resources. They are people we’ve built long-standing relationships with over many years—professionals who understand the importance of accuracy, context and human judgement in communication.

Depending on the challenge, we bring together the right mix of expertise to ensure work is rigorous, credible and genuinely useful to the people it’s intended for.

This flexible model allows us to stay focused, responsive, and honest—drawing on deep specialist knowledge without unnecessary layers and always keeping responsibility and accountability clearly with us.

All good communication starts with a conversation

Before messages, materials, or plans—there’s a conversation worth having.

If you’re wrestling with a communication challenge, or simply want a fresh perspective, we’d be glad to talk.

First, we slow things down. Then, we look at what’s really happening. From there, it becomes easier to see what’s needed—and whether we’re the right people to help.

There’s no sales pitch. No pressure. Just an open, considered conversation focused on what might help next.
